nobody, not nobody considers cup-a-soup as an alternative to actual soup. We all know that it's flavoured salty water. It's a drink and as Accy says, an alternative to having a brew.
I think it was Hugh Fearnley-Whittingsall years ago who suggested making your own pot noodle e.g with frozen veg, rice noodles and stock/boulion. It's a nice idea but I always forget to do it, and you need a container large enough to put it in.
I sort of do this. I get the ramen noodles from Aldi (the plain ones that have four bundles in a packet for 99p), add some stock, whatever flavourings I want, any leftover meat / veg that might be in the fridge and maybe a tablespoon of mayo to finish off. Not japanese kewpie mayo, that's well spendy...
