Amy braked hard because of the car and Kyle ran into the back of her bike and came off injuring his shoulder.
There's no indication that sleep deprivation had anything to do with it or that it's wearing them down.

I never meant that lack of sleep had anything to with the accident, just that getting up at 4am every day was tough with the distances they are riding, especially as they have had very few rest days. A few weeks back I had guessed they would finish in 125 days.

If I have read the leaderboard on their tracker correctly, it seems to say that by the finish they will have covered over 30,000km, yet the minimum they need to ride is 29,000km, that can't be right surely? They will have a chance to cut some distance in Spain by cutting across to Madrid from Lisbon in a more direct route.

I suspect it is a case of two antipodal land points which they must pass through. I suspect one is on the South Island of New Zealand and the other on that less direct route to Madrid.. I have not seen what antipodal points they have chosen published anywhere.

You need two antipodal points, and both actually on a road you can ride. No good if one point is up a volcano in New Zealand or a mountain with no roads in Spain.

I have seen it mentioned that it is Wellington and Madrid for the antipodal points. OK, it is Wellington and Alaejos, a small town 150km NW of Madrid and you can see on their proposed route where the make a small jink to go into there.
