i take it you didn't bother to read the article then?

To save you the trouble, the head had decided it would be better for discipline and general calmness if the teacher went out and signalled end of playtime by standing outside with a raised hand, which presumably the kids had been told to look out for.

Hardly "elf-n-safety gorn maad" but an attempt, worthwile or not as maybe, but do things differently
