This is a current incident. I've moved on from all of the past ones!

Nobody is above criticism, ever. Further, just because you can be respected for one aspect of your work/life, it does not mean you can't be questioned about another.

I could equally ask why it is that the 'fanboys' accept no criticism even when it is founded in fact. Would you prefer the 'haters' to move on because it's uncomfortable to have the questions asked? Is what you mean by 'move on' actually 'ignore'?

I think that this is a trivial publicity stunt when compared to other allegations. Armstrong rose to fame out of a peleton that seemed fueled by things other than training. I don't have an opinion about the innocence, or otherwise, of Armstrong. My opinion falls into the camp outlined by Montage above.

I enjoyed watching many cyclists in that era who are now shamed. Their shame doesn't leave me feeling cheated - I enjoyed the events at the time.

I am happy to leave Armstrong in the past and look forward to battles as good as the ones in this years tour in the future in the hope that they won't be sullied by future allegations of cheating

Oh and regarding the PR incident....who really gives a ****.
Clearly you don't and that's fine. You don't have to. To others it's puzzling and, perhaps, enlightening at the same time. Sometimes, the reason people get busted is because other people ask questions. Be it MPs fiddling expenses, parish priests molesting choir boys, etc etc etc. Take your pick. Just as well some people give a **** sometimes eh? ;)

It made for an interesting 10 minutes on what is otherwise a fairly boring stage no matter how you look at it.

It's not the usual type of stage, it's true. That doesn't make it boring though. Far from it. It's a celebration stage for the riders and personally I find that more entertaining than a normal flat stage. AND, of course, it does have a sprint finish with prize money and points that count... Cavendish could have taken the green jersey had Petachi finished further down (or not at all).

I guess though that if you're only interested in Lance Armstrong and not the TdF then you might have a different perspective. Yes, then perhaps you mightn't give a ****.

 actually I like that one, 'influenced more people to take up cycling than anyone else ever'. Here was me thinking Norman Tebbitt was more influential in that respect!

Better let Armstrong know that one. He can use it along with 'most tested athlete ever'.

My guess is that cyclists and parents are most influential in that respect. I've encouraged my 2 kids and their partners to be 'proper' cyclists and at least 10 friends. I was originally inspired by a friend of my wife and so it goes on.
I can safely predict that cycling will still increase in popularity even if Armstrong is shown to have feet of clay.

My brother made sure I started cycling before we'd even heard of Lance Armstrong, just to ensure that in future I could say that I was not influenced by Lance Armstrong
