agreed of course but unless they were a loon (and they may have been) I suggest that the cyclist in some way alarmed them, rightly or wrongly

That roundabout is hellish to get around on a bike. When I take that route to visit tesco or Halfords I approach on the footpath on the right and dash across the A281 to the path that runs across the roundabout, cycle to the other side and make another mad dash across the A281 opposite the garage. No way would I attempt to cycle around it at rush hour, unless I was in a suicidal frame of mind.

I don't fancy that option myself. I do that if I have to cross the roundabout on foot and I find it a nightmare trying to cross the roundabout at both points if it is in any way busy. I almost never have a problem with going the vehicular route and drivers are happy to accommodate my presence, incidents like the one I experienced are very rare which is why it shook me up I guess.

If you are going to Tesco or the Broadbridge Heath retail park from Horsham you can avoid the roundabout completely by turning left down Hills Farm Lane and moving across to the shared use path on the right hand side of the road. This leads onto a shared path that goes away from the road and around the back of the school, over a footbridge and down into the Tesco car park. I go this route any time I am heading for Tesco from that direction, there are generally very few people using the path at any one time and the path is nice and wide (and lit at night).

Here for rides.
al78 Chapeau to you for riding that roundabout. I won't. The local cycling forum have complained to the County Council about the cycle route over it which often requires you to sprint across like Linford ruddy Christie whilst pushing your bike. With that roundabout you only need to misjudge something once....

Allirog; Whilst I get your approach I either go via Tesco's as suggested by al78 (ignoring the Cyclists Dismount signs on the bridge; if someone is crossing on foot I wait until they have passed then ride over) or get into Broadbridge Heath by using the cycle path off Redford Avenue across the Golf Course "Fore!" down Robin Hood Lane and into BH on the Warnham Road.

Much nicer, much safer. imo anyway.

Horsham is full of cants in cars. You have been warned.

Both; are you aware of Operation Crackdown?

No I wasn't aware of Operation Crackdown. Thanks for pointing it out.

I didn't realise there was a local cycling forum either. You are not referring the the Horsham Cycling club forum are you?
