Just checked my credit card for hiring two Capital Bike Share bikes (just like Boris Bikes) in Washington DC last week. It came to $22 per bike for a one day hire, including 1 day's membership and then hire charge. In fact, we only had them for a couple of hours, so that's $11 an hour.

Now that is a rip off!

(That was the price in the US, not the charge to the credit card.)

It's only 6.80 per hour in Pounds though, which from what I can see on the TFL website is considerably cheaper than using Boris Bikes.

If you have one continuously for 2 hours then it is about the same £6 + £1 fee. But these bikes aren't intended for day hire and if you can do without one for 5 minutes every half hour then a whole day will cost £1.

It is now just another bike hire business that benefits from government concessions regarding use of land etc.

A must for privatisation though has Boris any other mates who want to sponsor it?
It was never put out to tender.
