And whilst I'm at it; kettles.

My kettle - in my student days - lasted for years as my Dad fixed it for me from time to time. Then again it was a hefty old Morphy Richards thing. After it permanently died I got one of those jug kettle things and I've replaced them annually ever since as they die just after the guarantee is out. Possibly a conspiracy, possibly not

Tesco's own brand 1.8kW kettle. It's not fast but has worked for years. The only thing I've had to do is scribe the minimum water line on the side as that wore off after a year or two.

Only recently got rid of the kettle that was used at work and survived this

The plug that attached to the kettle went and I couldn't find a replacement.

Same thing here. Why spend £50 on a pretty coloured one when an £8 white one does the job

Bought my eldest a kettle to go to Uni, the cheapest that Tescos offered when we arrived to find there wasn't one (£5), and I was pleasantly surprised to find it lasted the entire year, though not impressed when they suggested replacing it next year, if it works don't throw it out.

I'm on my third kettle since Uni, the Uni one lasted a long time, then I had my first cordless one which also lasted about 10 years. The current kettle is about 4 plus years.
