Just in case you are tempted by a TalkTalk package, have a gander at this thread....

:okay:

Just don't touch the TalkTalk version of Youview box - it's horse manure. My brother just got his after seeing my BT DTR2100 and is not happy. Can't say I blame him - it is the worst Youview box on the market.

You could go with any ISP and buy a BT Youview DTR2100 off Ebay\Gumtree and it will work fine.

Just remember that nearly all of these android boxes that give you access to sports channels, and movies, and any TV. Are illegal, and is piracy.

So bare that in mind before you purchase.

I think you have over simplified.

Watching movies using Amazon or Netflix is legal.
Watching TV using on demand is legal.

There are apps you can load onto android devices that allow access to illegal content but most Android boxes do not come with these pre-loaded.

Watching movies using the amazon or netflix, services, with an active subscription is legal.

On that box listed, at least 6 of those apps provide access to subscription content without a subscription.

@drummerbod yes, it may not be a simple as a 'freeview' but it does give me all the channels as for where it comes from, no idea as it's app based.
As for the legality, the boxes are totally legal, in fact more legal than 'boxes' that give you all the channels for a one off payment. I suppose it all
depends on how far your moral compass swings. "Box and a few apps" Vs "££'s for a provider each month". tbh though no-one is saying you have to
use apps that stream sports and new movies. Quite a few apps will stream freeview content all day every day:smile:

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
A mate of mine was singing the praises of Android boxes the other day, he has 2 and says he can get any TV show, film or sports channel he wants. I was tempted but wondered about legality etc, so did a bit of research, It seems ownership and use of the boxes is not illegal, although opinion varies as to whether streaming subscription TV using them is or isn't legal - they are abundantly available on Amazon and eBay and seem to be advertised as gaming boxes rather than TV boxes, so maybe a convenient blind eye is being turned? On the other hand, it seems that the providers of the streams via which you receive all these channels are breaking the law and every so often one gets taken out, which can render your box useless until someone else steps in, would be interesting to know if that is the experience of others here?

I decided not to bother, but the big attraction for me would be the sports channels, rather than TV shows and films, as TV shows are available via so many other routes. I have Netflix and recently gave Amazon Prime's free month trial a whirl but cancelled before payment kicked in. Prime is good, but I resent the way they have some shows free for the first few seasons, but you then have to pay extra to watch the later seasons - Mad Men is one such example (the other features of Prime are good but not essential to me). On balance I prefer Netflix as a TV provider.

I have had Talktalk TV and broadband for a few years now (initially it was Tiscali TV but TT bought them out), and whilst they aren't exactly amazing when things go wrong, I have found with time they have improved and the Youview box they provide is a good reliable piece of kit - basically does the same as the BT equivalent,

@Roadhump apps stop working every now and then, usually another one appears and that will be used until it also stops. There are more than one app
to do most things, so it really isn't a problem.
