If I get broadband through plus net do I need to buy my own modem ? A BT one?

If you get Broadband you will get a router they usually charge £5.99 to cover P&P, if you get Fibre Optic Broadband you will get a router from BT/OpenReach as part of the install and they will probably change you phone socket face plate as well & a Router from Plusnet for £5.99 that plugs into the BT Modem.

Not that I know of. It was discussed in another thread.

So I'm not going to start another argument about my opinions of doing it, just making OP aware before he decides.

No plusnet will arrange an OpenReach visit and sort everything out for you.

Plusnet will provide everything you need. We are with Plusnet (no fibre) and are very happy with them. Won't touch BT again. Was with Homecall that became Tiscali, then TalkTalk. Never had any problems, but nothing went wrong so never needed support.

Watching a live stream of Sky Sports 1 without a Sky Sports subscription is all perfectly legal, and above board?

most if not all are back up and running unblocked in the UK...

This is mainly due to that fact that getting a mirror up and running is far quicker than the court system ISP's have to go through to block the sites.

It's quite clear what is and isn't illegal, the grey area is whether you will get caught, and if so, if you will even be charged.

watching a stream of a subscription channel is legal, the sites are breaking uk laws but very few if any are based in the uk..
nothing to do with mirroring sites, these sites are legitimate sites running "illegal" content,

Do you have a source that would agree with you that watching a stream of Sky Sports, without a Sky Sports subscription is legal?

It says to me that it probably is illegal. Owners of the rights changed to try and offer a better paid service as a better strategy than the costs of claiming from end users via courts.

Absolutely correct. They are obstructive and evasive and they lie. The staff speak better English than I speak Hindi and try and be helpful, but if you get a crap tele-script to follow, the result is never going to be good.

The nuance is in the 'streaming' versus 'saving'. However, it is a pretty grey area. For sure the police would not come knocking on your door, but you could get a nasty letter from a solicitor, although as you say they abandoned that strategy.

Personally, I am happy with Netflix, so much so, it is goodbye Sky next month.

Yeh Leeds are far better than the rest this year, we are 3rd or 4th at best. Simply players are not good enough for top, over achieved last year!

So the android box could be seen as legal but the knock off sky box definitely isn't?
So if a person looked at buying a box they would be better off with an android box?

Yeh Virgin is so expensive I've had enough, I'm basically paying £80 a month more than I need to just to watch rugby league, surely there's a fairer way? I wish it was pay per view, I wouldn't have to pay for football I don't watch

I have had some real humdinger arguments with them over the phone, but to be fair many people I know have had similar experiences with BT, Sky and Virgin. I get the impression the internet, phone and TV business is an oligopoly and the few firms involved exploit the fact that life in our society is extremely difficult without their services, hence customer service is poor across the board.

I intended to move to BT when my contract was up last year, but when I asked TT for a migration code they offered me price reductions that undercut what I could get from BT by some distance so I stayed with them. Perhaps I should have gone back to BT to see if they made a counter offer, but I decided to stick with TT and avoid the inconvenience of awaiting a new router and Youview box. Around the same time, my son moved into a new flat and ordered a BT package, he said the service was appalling and made the same points about being told things that clearly weren't true etc.
