With an Android phone (HTC Wildfire) how do you check your emails? ATM I just have POP3 accounts, would I have to forward these to gmail....or how does it all work?

I have my Hotmail account linked to my Wildfire, you can set how often to receive updates/new messages, will try to remember how I did it

One of the videos I watched seem to suggest there is a standard mail thing so can probably just use that. Always good to get some feedback.

@potsy....would you recommend the Wildfire? I like having a smart phone, but don't want a fortune. It seems to fit the bill quite well, unless you've got any complaints to enlighten me on

You can set up normal POP3 accounts in the standard HTC mail client without forwarding them to gmail (on my Desire).
I have all my email accounts set up on my phone, but with the option set to not delete them from the server when I read them so I can later download them to my laptop.

I'm loving mine thomas, it's my 1st experience of 'smart' phones and I'm really glad I bought it now.

Finding more things it can do everyday

Just been looking and have found my Hotmail app again, have also set up a google mail from the phone but not used it yet.

Mine is on Tesco PAYG cost me £160 but will only cost £10 month to run with unlimited browsing and more than enough credit for text and calls.
Couldn't justify £25 a month and being tied into a 2 year contract.

You can do one of several things.

1. Configure Gmail to collect your Pop Mail as well as Gmail. Go to Gmail>Settings?Accounts and Import. There's a guide here
2. Get an email client off Android market, such as K-9 and configure it to get Gmail and your Pop mail
3. Use Gmail for your Gmail and k-9 for your POP

Simple!

Are you looking for an Android phone Thomas? I'm about to sell a new Samsung Apollo I just got with my new contract which I don't need as I bought one a while back.

cooool. I was looking on Amazon. It's locked to t-mobile (which i'm on) for £160...and was going to get 3 years everything insurance for £40.

Cool will look into that. And yes, but I do like HTC's navigation system. I currently have a htc touch 2 (which is old windows mobile), but recently broke from "water damage". I'm trying to get them to fix it (as it wasn't out in rain, etc), but don't hold much hope so will probably get this HTC WF.

It's a nice phone the Wildfire, we've got both in our house, better spec than the Samsung but the Samsung screen is actually better in real life because it's a bit smaller, slightly better res and so doesn't look as blocky as the Wildfire.

That wasn't my best sales pitch

I'll have no problem selling the Samsung anyway. Think I might advertise it on here first, I'm getting more reluctant to pay the rip off ebay charges.

Been thinking about finally getting a smartphone of some description.

I have a Hotmail account, a POP3/SMTP for one company I work for, and third on a Microsoft Exchange server.
Been rather put off the HTC/Android side of things by the hassle of setting up and forwarding to a GMail, but it reads above as if there is a different way to do it ? Will the K-9 thing fetch e-mails from all 3 types of account ?

I haven't a price in mind chaps, I shall consult ebay and see what they go for. It is locked to Orange but a site I've used before and is reliable, will unlock it for £12.

Pete, K9 will collect your Gmail and POP mail and I think it can even connect to an Exchange server for work based mail. There's a review here. I don't use it myself, as I'm not a heavy user of mail on the phone so have kept Gmail and POP seperate but I was thinking of combining them in one app and K9 gets the best reviews.
