Hi all,

I want to map my routes and then send them to my phone so I can start pushing out onto roads I don't know.

I've tried using google maps and my maps but I get errors if I use anything but googles directions (and I want to pick routes) also it won't let me map off road paths.

I can make .gpx files from the internet (completely forgotten site name) but I can't find an app that reads them only ones that write them.

Tried a forum search too but no joy

I think being in German would eventually drive me nuts (or just improve my German ) I've been fiddling with mytracks and I think I'm gonna try a long route tonight with it

Yeah it's in English. I didn't download the pay version which will import gpx files and I've never used Endomongo so can't compare.

Hi David1701

I've been playing with google maps on my HTC Wildfire, trying to import GPX's but to no avail. I tried importing GPX into google maps online as I have a GPX of the Dunwich Dynamo, think I might need it in the middle if the night when I get lost!

Read on a forum that google maps can't handle enough waypoints and the route gets truncated, not very good. Also tried emailing the map link to my phone but it's just too small a screen to be viable.

I see there's a few route apps but I'd like someone esle to "guinea pig" it before I waste my cash too

Hope you can sort it, don't now what phone you're using but I'd like to make the most of mine. If I have any luck I'll post someting.

If this is a bit wordy it's my newbie exuberence overflowing!

You can import GPX files into Google Maps on the desktop (go to My Maps -> Create new map), then add them as "Layers" on the Android bundled google maps app. I've also seen the truncation problem, though

my issue is every map I've made a layer it won't show as it has 'errors'

I'm with you on not wanting to waste money on paid apps that aren't good enough, looking into my tracks with a file manager atm

Been playing with google maps, and what I did was plot a route in My Maps in Google Maps on the 'pooter. Following a map on Mapometer, I placed Placemarks on the GoogleMap creator to correspond with the Mapometer route.

I saved this in My Maps. Then using Google Maps on my Android phone I went Menu>Layers>More Layers>MyMaps and then selected the saved route.

What I then got on the phone was a route of placemarks. This is ideal for me as I want to use it to check my route while doing the Dunwich Dynamo, not really wanting to use it as a "satnav".

Realised I had to be logged into my maps online with the same login used on the phone.

Any help to you? Anyone else had any luck?

I had a look at trying to import GPX into Google Maps, only options seem to be KML, KMZ, or GeoRSS???

Also looked at Endomondo, seems to be a tracking app, i.e. you'd have to do the route first?
