Anyone use this? Does it work?

My phone is due for a change, and because I don't get a signal in my lead lined bunker at work I use a Blackberry as it has UMA - which basically enables me to get signal over wifi.

UMA is great. It works seamlessly and recognises when I don't have signal and automatically cuts in. However, the choice of phones with UMA is pretty poor, I could get something much better if the signal boost apps are any good.

Mr Haematocrit

My Galaxy S II had "Signal Boost" the Orange branding of UMA. Always suffered with bad reception here and it's really helped (don't need to be in the kitchen to make calls) So you could get UMA android phones. Surely backward step if the next gen ones don't all have it? I'm not convinced about an aftermarket app though

The Galaxy SII has UMA which as you rightly say is branded "Signal Boost" by Orange. However, this is different from the Android Apps which are also confusingly called "Signal Boost" but have nothing to do with UMA. I stand to be corrected, but I thought that UMA is hardware, whereas the Apps are obviously software. UMA works great, but I have my suspicions that Mr Haematocrit is right and the apps are not anywhere near as good.

Mine works: It says, SIgnal Booster activated, so it must work. It's just my perception that there's no fekkin change in the pitiful amount of hours it takes to find a signal: Right?

Yep, absolutely - all put more succinctly than my attempt. Surprised it's not more widely available on new handsets. But living at the bottom of a hill, what I lose in phone/tv/radio reception I gain on the first/last bit of any ride (depending on your perspective)

Hmmm, I think you've confirmed my suspicions that these apps work via the placebo effect! It's like Homeopathy for your phone signal.
