Nice. I think it might need a new chain, other than that looks good to go :becool:

Any idea of vintage? I'd also like to know of it's worth anything, but I realise that it's only worth what someone is willing to pay!

That's awesome... loving the lock on the fork crown...
Should clean up nice ...
It's like most things bicycle, despite its age even in good ridable condition it's not worth a great deal, unfortunately, but who knows it's worth what someone's willing to pay if they're on the lookout for one!
Could be around 1957-ish?

I'm not near it at the moment. My BIL sent me the photos. I'll ask him to check for date. I'm now hoping the forks aren't locked as we've no chance of finding the key!

I have something very similar, but a ladies singlespeed.

My bike is 1959 and cleaned up and serviced might be worth £100. Mine had had a hard life but the frame, bottom bracket, hubs and headset all looked ready for the next 60 years. The negative for me are the steel rims with very limited braking ability. As mine is going to a friend whose safety I care about it will get aluminium rims and new spokes onto the original hubs.

There is no chance that I will come close to breaking even, which may explain why I have lost motivation...

You weren’t kidding when you said barn find. I’d also say early fifties and it looks like it could be the “Sports” model due to the cable brakes and alloy rim on the rear. The front has been changed to a steel rim at some point so perhaps try to find a matching alloy front.
Have look at monkeyshred’s videos on YouTube, he’s done a restoration on a similar bike.
Keep us up to date on progress.

It's clearly post-war so there will be a YY-MM datestamp on the hub. Somebody in the Raleigh Roadster club on Facebook can supply you with a key. You need to remove the lock and give them the number on it.

I've just notice the hub has 49 8 stamped on it. The hub was made in August 1948, the bike would have been put together soon afterwards.

Looks interesting and I'm intrigued by the lock on the fork - presumably prevents the steering from operating and seems like a nice elegant solution for modern utility bikes..
