I've got to say, I don't anyone will take this seriously. I doubt even 5% of cyclists run headlights during the day but 87% think that should be mandatory? So 80+% are thinking "I'd like to leave my headlights on all the time, but I can't until they change the law"?

The numbers are...bonkers. Yes Minister must be the answer.

I've fitte+M Toplite Plus Brake to my Brompton and pretty certain I've seen a reduction in tailgating as a result... car drivers are tuned to brake when a red light gets brighter in front of them

Yes let's all run lights to try and compete with cars running lights so bright in the day they have to be switched off for the indicators to be seen.
At night indicators are now near invisible, either due to xenon glare, or too close grouping with headlights.

I have a small car that's highly visible in red. In less than optimal conditions I have headlights on.

Yes, because it's small it's seen as a slow inconvenience by other drivers, so they pull out of junctions in front of me.

Visibility is only one factor. Entrenched negative attitudes are the greatest threat.
Attitudes proposed by the 'well I know a cyclist and he says they should...' brigade.

I've just done a survey of motorists. The results are surprising...

88% want all speed limits lowered to 20mph.

91% want lifetime bans for anyone committing a motoring offence.

107% want the reintroduction of the red flag man, although he'll need to be in Rollerblades to do 20.
