Today I achieved something that this time last year would have probably been dangerous to my health.

Having smashed the target of 50k before the end of September back in April and going out on a number of group rides over the past month, it was brought up in conversation about a local charity ride happening and would I be up for it.

So the choices were 20 miles or 50 miles my initial thought was to stick with the 20 but where's the fun in that I have pushed myself over the last few months and am seeing and feeling the benefits (maybe the bank account would argue to differ)

So the decision was to do my first charity ride and in doing so push my milage past anything I had done in one stint (35 being my biggest to date).

Now I would never have been able to do the 50 today without the help of a fellow member @Lee gg who sacrificed his ride to tag along with me.

So today I have not only completed my first charity event but also pushed my milage way past what I thought I was capable off, oh and got my first medal for over 20 years.

Legs are a little achy but my backside is fine and in all honesty I truly think that I could easily do another 50 or maybe even 60 event soon. Especially considering early in the week I felt rubbish and rundown with what felt like a virus.

From fat unfit blokes come slimline milage munchers.

Yeah I am well aware of that and already planning to start pushing my weekly milage from the 35 to 45 now I know I can do it, in preparation of taking the next step to 100k

Good read Steve, if your thinking of making a movie for your new biking life /adventures I request that I play me,Lol 2 more medals up for grabs next month hope you make it.
Lol I wouldn't even think of going down the casting route.

Yeah why not it's only a few miles extra when you break it down. Definitely something I realised today the differnce between 35 and 50 is nothing it's all in your head.

And then 100 miles. It's just a case of building up mileage. Get a couple more 50/ 60 milers under your belt and then just carry on riding! As long as you don't set off at the speed of light and make sure you eat and drink enough en route you'll be fine. And you don't have to keep forking out for charity rides, you can just go out and ride....

I get the feeling I need to start putting some money away specifically for these charity rides it could become an expensive habit.

Seriously, no one has mentioned Audax yet? Different vibe to sportives, but great fun and soo much cheaper. Only downside is they start at 100km (there are some shorter, but not many), and go up through 200, 300, 400, 600km to 1000km +.

Slippery slope
