Another E Bike question.

My Whyte ebike cranks squeak whenever water gets in and around them - haven't found it causing any more problems than that just yet.

If I was locking my ebike outside with the battery removed, I would tend to want to cover the bikes remaining terminals/connections so that they aren't exposed to the wet as they seem to be most likely part that may suffer

There is a Bosch cover I can get for mine

not cheap - but if I was in the habit of locking it up outside in bad weather I would get one just in case
although the manual says it is not needed

only time I have left it outside and it got wet I dried it with a tissue and it was fine!

So did I when I was a kid

got caught in the rain once and tried it out

it was like riding into a strong headwind all the time

the aero effects were awful - basically a huge air dam from my head to the handlebars and out to my shoulders

Fantastic with a tail wind.

If the battery is open designed, outside frame protect it from rain. Either with clingfilm or some neoprene cover. I bought a neoprene cover for the wife's bike
Which is probably why so many couriers on electric bikes tend to wrap their battery packs in duck tape / heavy grade plastic or similar.
But then they're out in all weathers providing a service that many just take for granted.

But then, fifty plus years ago, that's pretty much all that was available so we got on with it. :okay:

I just used a cagool - or however you spell it

which was a brilliant way to get your legs soaked as the water just ran off it onto your legs
but as your legs are used for pedalling they stayed warm(ish) so it wasn;t too bad

or an anorak

whatever

just not a stupid cape that made me ride 2 gears lower than normal!!

Probably in the thirties / forties, over the shoe up to the knees oilskin waterproof 'spats' were widely available to counter this. ^_^

That would have been useful if

a) I was born then
b) I would have been seen dead in stuff like that!!!

My control on the top tube switch (iWOC) went a bit wonky in the rain, It dried out and was fine after but I now wrap it up in some fancy waterproof tape who's name I currently forget. If I get a chance I'll put it in the thread. It's a Mahle x35 system. I'm also reluctant to ride deep waters if over the points mentioned above.

Some friends have also had water issues with their Specialsed mid drives. That's been the top tube computer too.
