I agree the OP could do with improving his bike control, but as someone whose control is nothing special, improving is not easy.
A change of tyres may help.
I am more confident on my new Marathon Pluses than I was on the old Marathon Supremes, which were a bit iffy on anything other than dry asphalt.
Original equipment Kendas - fitted to the OP's bike - are, in my experience, not very good.
Knobblies of any make don't sound ideal for the OP's commute.
My suggestion would be to get some shallow tread tyres, I like Schwalbe, but I'm sure other makes are just as good.
Also, changing tyres after a series of misfortunes may give the OP the feeling of a fresh start.
