You are correct - it's a pussycat of a climb apart from a bit of a steeper section just before the open moorland! The biggest problem is usually a cross-headwind from the right once you get to the exposed upper part of the climb. Definitely a big ring ascent for fit riders.

It peaks at between 8 and 10% no? That's still not bad at all considering it is a short stretch of the climb. When you are back on the bike Colin, you can organise a ride that takes in the "climb" and I will come along. I have wanted to do that stretch of road for a while but never got round to it.

Yes, the last bit out of the top end of Cragg Vale kicks up to about 8% for about 300 metres, so it is short enough to sprint up if you are fit.

I'll definitely be heading up there on a forum ride in 2013, subject to recovering properly from my illness.
