Sorry Mr Hippo, but I'm with the OP here.
If this was a two lane situation I'd agree with you, but this is just crap road layout and inattention. It's a single lane with a constriction point. The Volvo should have hung back as the cyclist had nowhere to go.

It looks like an error of judgement from the driver, thinking he had more time/space to overtake you. Although he did manage to complete the overtake, its similar to drivers who stretch to overtake right before a junction then slam the brakes on to turn off.

I dont think anyone else has mentioned it and it may not be practical in London with much more traffic, but when im overtaken i tend to brake a bit to increase the relative speed, to reduce the time running parallel, reduce the time the car is (sometimes recklessly) driving to oncoming traffic and reduce the chance of being left hooked, because its very common that in built up areas drivers dont have anywhere near the relative speed they think they have.

imho its not anti-cyclist, its just mis-judgement of speed and maybe a bit of a must overtake mentality. In the street near my house (30mph) theres very very aggressive speed bumps that cars bottom out on if they dont crawl them and heading towards them, people are forever trying to overtake me mis-judging it and end up hitting the bottom of their car really really hard on the speed bump because they dont want to back out of the overtake.

Thanks, that's good advice. I agree entirely with what you say. I dont think this is "anti cyclist", it is just stupidity and lack of anticipation and concentration. But when driving on the road, it is incumbent on all drivers to concentrate and anticipate so as to avoid injuring others.

For that reason, I have reported this on RoadSafe. It is important that drivers generally are more aware of the risks they take when they attempt irresponsible maneouvres such as these.

Change lanes? He moved to his offside a few inches to avoid the stick-out bit of kerb. The way you talk you'd think he bunnyhopped across the car's roof.

I couldn't really understand what people were talking about when they said that I was moving lane. I certainly wasn't conscious of doing so and I don't remember doing so.

This has been bothering me because the suggestion that I had moved lane didn't make any sense.

And then it occurred to me when I re-watched the video ... I WASN'T MOVING LANE AT ALL.

I was simply LOOKING TO MY RIGHT as I felt / heard the car moving past me. My looking to the right makes it look as if I was moving to the right, but I was doing NO SUCH THING. I was simply moving my head to the right.

if you weren't slowing to move over a bit that would have been worse, possibly a left hook. is it worth reporting tho?nah, just chalk it up to cycling and move on.
