Has anyone tried BT TV?
We moved house recently, and cancelled our Sky contract, and went over to BT TV.
Cancelling the Sky contract was a bit of a marathon. I spent about 40 mins on the phone, trying not to be rude, as the girl from Sky was only doing her job, which was to try everything to get me from cancelling. In the end I got it through to her that I really, definitely, truly did want to cancel my account, and they did cancel it 28 days later, by which time we had moved anyway.
My new house had a decent outside aerial, and I was able to get a lot of channels on Freeview (including about half a dozen French ones as we are near the Kent coast!). I have chosen to go with BT for an unlimited broadband package and their basic TV service. They sent a receiver/recorder box which only took about half an hour to get set up. It did have a few cases of "screen freeze" to begin with, and I had to make a couple of calls to their support team - in India - but they were able to resolve it at the second attempt, by sending some kind of download direct to the receiver box.
To get the 2 BT Sports channels you need to buy a viewing card for a one-off (I think £10) but as I had called the support line a couple of times, they gave that to me free of charge. Plug it into the receiver box and hey presto I had the sport.
For me, there is an adequate range of channels. Not quite as wide as Sky's ordinary package, which did include a couple of their sports channels and Eurosport (I am a motorbike racing fan and could see a lot on Eurosport). But the unlimited broadband allows me to watch highlights on-line. Or via catch-up TV services.
Overall I have no complaints, and being able to watch lots of catch-up programmes from BBC iPlayer and the like on the big TV rather than the laptop is also nice. I am a happy bunny!
