I like he use of the phrase that mobile use is the biggest cause of road deaths. Thought provoking

yes it is of course its about vw but its still good to see them adopt something like this instead of the usual over glorification of cars. It's a clever ad because it shocks, makes a sane legal valid saftey point and at the same time gives the message that VW stands for saftey as well as just another bloody car. Well done VW More vorsprung, less teknic....sehr gut

I will remember the advert and the message from it so it was effective for me.

When you think of the Public Information Films of the 60s and 70s, some of which I found quite effective (not to mention scary), we seem to have moved away from their use. Hardly ever see one on tv nowadays. Perhaps this is because it was felt society had moved on / grown more sophisticated / shouldn't be 'told what to do and what not to' any more, perhaps it was partly the cost of running them - I don't know. But there are still messages that need to be got across and it doesn't matter to me whether it's a commercial company behind it.

Didn't most of them feature a certain Jim who'll fix it for you?
Perhaps one reason for removing from screen...

Indeed.

I was thinking rather of the original 'Think Bike' videos, and also the ones about not running for buses, lagging pipes in winter, not messing about near water, taking care near electricity lines etc.

Probably the one about level crossings (the one with the family is out cycling and playing I-spy) is the most effective on currently on tv.
