Any chrish boardman bike commuters

Well , i looked at the trek 1.2 and 1.5c and was thinking about purchasing but got to wait a couple of weeks for the 2011 bikes for my size as i have a halfords voucher and although i would normally completely disregard them i am seeing that the CB Comp road bike has a 105 group set and looks good value with carbon forks. Any riders out there that can give it a thumbs up, looking for primarly commuter but also weekend long rides so 50 mile plus. Just mainly wondering about the frame quality.

I ride a Carrera Vanquish 2009 model which is my first road bike. I love it and its spec is very good http://www.thebikelist.co.uk/carrera/vanquish-medium-07-2007. My friend has just purchased a Boardman Comp £699 on the Cycle to Work scheme. I've had a ride on it and I must say its a joy to ride. The frame is solid and very light. Not much different from my Carrera. I've not ridden any Treks, Cubes, Bianchis, Specialized etc so cant compare the Boardman to any of those.

I can't vouch for the road bike but I ride the CB hybrid (hatemail expected). I can give a positive report on this bike, it is well built, light and appart from the Halfords setup I have not had any problems at all. I woudl prefer a chain set with a lower first and higher top gear, I can spin out in top gear going down one hill on my commute and I sometimes struggle in first going up it; but that is motivation to go quicker.
I have put about 2000 miles on it with minimal maintanance (new tyres and mudguard, new chain).

No experience with any of those brands, but Boardman owners praise their bikes highly. Also, they're very well specc'd for the money.

Some people are put off by the Halfords connection, but my experience with them has been satisfactory.

I commute on a Boardmans team carbon and its a brilliant bike! I think the comp model that your looking at would be better suited to commuting though being a alloy frame it will take knocks and bumps a lot better.

Halfords are rubbish, just take your boardmans to a LBS for a once over (mine charged me £20 and made all the adjustments etc)

I actually cycle past tooting bec daily on my boardmans. I had one of my punctures there last week too! ended up walking from tooting bec tube station to the evans in clapham - bad times! But that wasn't the bikes fault (maybe the tyres on it or the piece of glass that punctured it)

In order to keep a bit of base fitness i try once a week to walk to work from Tooting Bec to waterloo!

Right i think i'lll be making a stop at halfords then ( and then using my LBS from then on!)

I was thinking of doing this, although I heard that some employers are putting in clauses to stop people getting a new bike each year.

Well, condisering I've TUPE'd 2 days ago then my employer has changed

I have the comp but it certainly doesnt have the 105 groupset!

It has the RD but the FD is tiagra as are the shifters. Breaks are tektro, cranks truvativ but still great value!

I have the CBoardman Hybrid Comp.
I find it very good for commuting, my ride isn't too bumpy but it's full of not great road surfaces and the bike performs credibly.
Although I had been defending Halfords for setting my bike up well, I have been going through it finding paint chips and scuffs where the Halfords guy set it up either wrong or quickly and didn't want to tell me.
I would say that the halfords set up was pretty good but it looks like my brakes have either worn oddly or were set up wrong as they have been losing power untill I found out what cable stretch can do and then what toeing in pads can do.
I do a couple of very sharp ups and downs on my route and find that the bike is very good at descending (even on very bumpy crappy tarmac) and really quite good at climbing as I do a 1 in 5 section every day.
Overall the disk brakes are really powerful (Avid BB5), the gears seem a really good range (for me at least), it's a very light bike (11kg) and very importantly it looks pretty swish.
Good bike for commuting in my eyes.
