I think what you have done is to accidentally run 2 grounds and one signal from the CD player! When you swap the '+' you are then selecting the other signal. Are you should that you shouldn't be using one '-' and both '+'? (Since the signals are AC, the + and - are a bit meaningless.)

Maybe I have that the wrong way round, but you should be able to get what I mean!

Right. Each speaker has a black and a red. I am running each red to the headphone and one of the blacks. Are you saying that the black and the red are flipped for each speaker? As in the red is +ve for left and -ve fir the right?

I guess it's posdibke but it would surprise me?

Spent ages tryng to find a kids CD player for our 3yo as she loves music that also has a USB port so we can give her lots of music.
Sorry, am I missing something here? Can you not give her one without a USB port, and record her all the Black Sabbath she could desire onto blank CDs?

I could do but decided its a waste to buy another. I simply assumed it woukd have one when I bught it. We didn't get the headphones until a few months later and it never occurred a socket woukd be missing. Then it was a little challenge to add one.

I applaud your efforts!

This is the kind of thing that I got into as a teenager and it eventually led to me doing a degree in Electronic Engineering. I graduated in 1986 and ...

... have barely picked up a soldering iron or designed a circuit since!
