I think all this shows you need a French- as- first- language speaker, not merely fluency. I could probably understand a saying, and possibly remember it if I'd heard it often, but not figure it out fresh like this.

more than one - I loved Izzard's skit, despite only having basic schoolbiy French. I am similar age to Izzard so remeber the ludicrous Monkey example in my school textbook. And anyway shouldn't it be "minkey"?
