Aye probably.

Anyway logging off for a while so here's my question.

Dennis Irwin & Roy Keane

Irwin won 7 leagues, 3 FA Cup's, a Europen Cup Winners Cup and a Champions League. Keane won 7 leagues in Eng & 1 in Scot, 4 FA Cups and 1 lge cup in Scot. Why is it Irwin is not held as one of the greats of the modern era and Keane is? Why is it Keane is mentioned as one of the greatest Irish sports people of all time and Irwin isnt? Keane may have been captain of Man U but Irwin was first on the team sheet when he was fit, even before Keane joined the club. Irwin doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves IMO.

I know Keane was captain and a stronger personality but still Irwin was a fabulous player

Post the question anyway, some of us proper footy fans will give you the answer.

Ok beat me to it.Don`t actually know the answer to that. Keane comes across as the nastiest individual you could meet. His "revenge" attack on Haaland, which he admitted was deliberate, should have seen him banned.
Irwin (who they got from my club Leeds) was what was known as an unsung hero, just queitly getting on with things.

Good player Irwin. Very unfussy and just got on with it.

Not one to take a game by the scruff of the neck though, and turn it round.

Keane could run a game.

I enjoyed his spats with Viera.

Suppose you're right. Central midfielders win you matches and trophies, full backs generally don't. That semi final game against Juventus that Keane knew he'd be out of the Champions league final when he got booked was one of the best single handed performances I've ever seen. he turned that whole game on his own and got them to the final. He was outstanding that night

Was just asking as we were talking last night about players we loved and despite there being better Celtic players in more glamourous positions big Paul Elliott is regarded as a legend by many, me included. Loved him playing for us

For the same reason Bobby Charlton got more credit than Ray Wilson.
Kids only play full back because they can't get in the team anywhere else not through choice.

To explain further, your 1st photo shows Keane injured after he fouled Haaland (caused his own injury through a bad tackle).
The 2nd photo shows Haaland injured after Keanes so called revenge attack.
In summary Keane was responsible for both injuries but in his own self inportant eyes thought he had the right to seek revenge for something which wasn`t Haalands fault.
To summarise further, Keane is a typical a******e who thinks being part of "the greatest club side in the world" (try my hardest not to burst out laughing) puts him above the laws and rules of the game.
IMO his foul and subsequent admittance should have seen him permanently banned from the game. I look forward to the day he`s sacked by Ipswich.

Irwin is regarded as fondly if not more so than Keane at OT but his character was the total opposite. He was a servant to the club. Locally you would see Keane out on the town but not Irwin. Keane was higher profile in the media but both were invaluable to the club. The perception in the press was Keane was more highly regarded. His arrival was a transfer record at the time, he was in the media regarding his wage negotiations which were the highest in the country at the time and his departure was under a cloud.
