Then the salesman persuaded her to buy either Norton or McAfee virus protector. I am not sure whether they are necessary any more. Isn't Microsoft Defender good enough?
They are the very opposite of necessary. The main thing they do is clog up and slow down the computer.

There are anti virus products out there which are better than just relying on the built in Defender and Microsoft firewall, but those two aren't among them.

Something like Bitdefender is a much better choice than either of those.

Discovered an issue with Chromebooks. I had trouble printing anything out on my mum's old printer. I got it to print eventually. Come to think of it, I have not tried printing anything on her new Windows 11 laptop.

If you have a Goggle account then it's very slick and easy if you predominantly use goggle chrome and other goggle stuff. But yes there are limitations. For simplicity though, they are great. We have just been forced to use Goggle at work as our default, so gmail, google hub, google meet, sheets and docs. If you're using all of those a lot of the time (which we do) then I don't rate it as high as the microsoft equivalents. Sheets is very annoying if you have 1000s of rows of data, the filter functions are more difficult than they need to be. Gmail has some very annoying features especially if using a shared (delegated) inbox. But for home use I'd not shy away from one, I've just always been used to PC

So do you think it'll be fine for me, seeing as I just watch videos, post on CC, Facebook etc and look at links to newspapers. Should I get one with a bigger screen though?🤔

Don't forget with a Chromebook that Google is harvesting all your activity/data.......................big brother is indeed watching you, targeting adverts and storing your data in 'the cloud'. Now whilst I don't do anything nefarious on my computer (or anywhere else for that matter) I don't like the fact that someone is looking over my shoulder.

Microsoft is busy catching up on that area.

For all your use I would imagine you'd just be using the Google chrome internet browser which is not much different from Firefox, Edge or whatever browser you use now. But any device will pretty much do that. The one you have linked to above is an 11 inch screen so it's basically a large tablet with a keyboard. So whether it suits your needs depends entirely on how you use it (e.g. do you sit at a desk or have it on your lap?)

I have my current laptop on a type of desk.

I've just measured my current laptop's screen. It's 12 inches, so the one I've linked is slightly smaller, but not that you'd notice. I could go to the Currys store this evening as it's only 3.5 miles away and open till 8pm, but I bet they'd talk me into buying one costing a lot more than the one I've linked. Not being a technology lover I think spending £129 on a laptop is enough for me, leaving me to spend my saving on a pair of trousers I have my eye on!!😉

Thankfully after being reconnected to CC on my phone I can wait patiently for that laptop to arrive. I have 2 phones, having got a new one about a month ago. I watch videos etc on my old phone while posting on such as CC on my new phone. If I only had one phone I'd probably be off to Currys to buy an expensive laptop I don't really need. It's a bit of a bind watching videos etc on a phone's small screen but I'll just have to wait for the above one to arrive, hopefully early next week.😉

As you can see, my going on for 6 years old Currys bought Acer laptop is well fecked! Many of the letters wore off the keyboard a couple of years ago and the front fell off after it fell on the floor about a year ago.To get a @ I have to press the " key and to get a £ sign I have to type in 'Pound sign images' so I can copy and post it as the £ sign key stopped working about 18 months ago. Just as a thought, should I get it repaired instead of buying another one?🤔 😏 😂

But don't they all get watched by 'big brother'?🤔
