Fair enoughski. I didn't intend to upset anyone, and I wasn't slagging off low end stuff per se, (just his).

Perhaps it's the way he rides then, but he does nothing but moan about shifting performance every time he uses it TBH.

I think sometimes it is a combination of low end cables, mechs etc and a good fettle.

That said, the higher end stuff can be had for a good price then go for it.

Mrs auds MTB as said has never needed to be adjusted, but her hybrid with an Acera needs a slight tweek every now and again, my Deore has never been done at all and the Tiagra rear changes with the weather!.

Tell your mate to buy some Pixie traps, i am sure ithey come out at night and fiddle

Thanks for all the advice. Whilst I was checking wiggle for prices, in a Q&A thread on a product they said a nine speed mech is too narrow to take a wider 7/8 speed chain are they just being over cautious?

Thanks for that link, just read it, sorry to have have doubted everyone's expertise. I did think they were being over cautious when I read it as I thought chain width couldn't be much different.

Don't know why I was looking anyway as I'm not changing it yet anyway

Ah but we all like to look dont we lol

I would save the money towards a better bike tbh.

I have Deore on my hybrid and probably AO50 on my road bike.

The only real difference is that the Deore handles bigger cassettes.
DIrt, rust, ,lubrication and settings are what makes the difference.
A good clean got the AO50 back to like new. The Deore also needed new jockey wheels.

I think I am doing unless I have a failure, I've already changed the seat, pedals (twice) and shifters that weren't broke what would be after rear mech? front mech, crank, wheels. I suppose it could end up like Triggers brush....
