This is very silly.

Just get the answers. It's badly designed whether you get there quick or slow. You're not proving anything and the only time you're wasting is your own.

What's the test for, ingenuity, ability to rationalise a problem or to randomly guess until the computer says yes... are they able to monitor your progress through this process?

You're not looking to get the right answers though, you're figuring out how easy it would be to guess them right. Which also teaches you nothing.

Get the answers, you'll then understand them in the context of the question.

I honestly don't know whether the training dept is monitoring. I have however kept a record of how long it's taken me so far: ammunition which I hope to present to them.
I asked my original question because, if I don't cheat, I'd like to know what the chances are of me hitting on the correct answer purely by chance. I can offer up this as 'evidence' too.

I'm with Asterix on this one. I don't see any more virtue in guessing than in cribbing.
