Hi, am looking for a thermal jacket for the winter. I got a soft shell jacket from Aldi last year, I went out yesterday morning pretty chilly, so on with a base layer and the jacket. After amount 15 miles I was getting cold from the sweat. So am looking for a jacket thats breathable. Any suggestions? Thanks

I bought an Altura Night Vision 3 a few weeks ago, it's had about 6 outings so far and it seems to do the job. It's got zipped vents under the arms for when it's mild, and or course you can unzip the front to get air in. When it's been raining hard and cold it's kept me warm, which is the main thing. I've used it for all day rides and so far it's been good for this.

Dunno what price range you are looking at but my warmest l/s jersey is an Isadore one which is cosy but breathes nicely too;

Also as mentioned Castelli jerseys are good although the sizing can be variable across the range,good guide here;

Also look at Chapeau kit;

Depends how warm you get generally when riding. I find I heat up quite quickly, so even though it's starting to get colder, today I was commuting in shortsleeve jersey with fingerless gloves. If you keep warm (which it sounds like you may do) you may be fine for now with just a long sleeve jersey, let alone a winter jacket.

I have been looking at this http://www.pearlizumi.co.uk/men-s-select-escape-softshell-jacket, has anyone brought there jacket?and what are there sizing like?

I can't help with sizing I'm afraid, but I'd be stupified if you can't find that a lot cheaper elsewhere

I used to have a similar problem but got one of these half price in a sale and it is much better now. I don't feel cold and don't overheat like I did before.

You may find you need something tighter fitting but I find it breathes very well. Now if it is close to freezing I wear a base layer, a short sleeve jersey and a long sleeve jersey as I find 3 thin layers under this jacket works best for me.

I actually been to there bike shop during the summer when I was looking for a new bike.

Just realised it's only XL, sorry (unless you're an XL). Google throws up some offers around £60 I think.

I've got a Pearl Izumi gilet, gloves and arm warmers, all decent quality.
