After a late start the snow is shaping up nicely especially in the west: http://www.winterhighland.info/general/

Following two good seasons a couple of the resorts have invested in new piste bullies and artificial snow machines. For next week we need a few more days of the present cyclonic weather conditions then on Boxing day we need a nice big stable anticyclone to haul in from the Atlantic and sit over the British Isles like it did last winter.

Skiing in Scotland is never boring, you need to be able to take the rough with the smooth and I can see us dashing up for a couple of days of challenging snow and weather conditions between Xmas and New year. Anybody else planning the same?

Every time we've looked into Scottish skiing, we've gone to the Alps instead. Cheaper and quicker to get to from where I am.

It's certainly no cheaper than The Alps and it's 6 - 8 hours of driving from Lancashire, but if conditions are good it is more fun than the Alps in a strange way because of the challenge of unpisted snow and weather. We usually go once as a 2-3 day supplementary holiday to our main Alpine winter holiday.

Off to La Norma in February. It's snowing there now.
Mind you, it's a good 400m higher then Morzine.
About an 11 hour drive, and another two once you add in the ferry.

Worst comes to the worse we'll just have to take a long lift up to Avoriaz - although if everyone from Morzine and Les Gets does the same it will be rather crowded! The short transfer from Geneva was too tempting!
