Back on topic (sorry) they seem to be simplifying multiple lines (sora, tiagra, alivio, acera etc etc) and merging under one name, but that one name covers .... multiple lines of 9,10,11 speed. So the complex system of different names will just be replaced by a complex system of different numbers (U3000, U4000, U6000 ... ).

What is handy is consistency of cable pull, so (when the road components are released) it should make it much easier to answer questions about "how do I put lower gears on my road bike". And it means that it won't be necessary to remember things like Tiagra 4700 having a different cable pull to other stuff.

I wonder how compatible CUES stuff will be with existing things - can you put a CUES RD and cassette on a bike with X series current shifters?

When my current stuff (105 R7000) wears out in a few years it should all be well established and I'll be giving it a look. I'll also be even more in need of a dinner plate sprocket for the hills than I am now.

By the way CUES stands for Create Unique ExperienceS. I wonder if this was at all inspired by Calvin and Hobbes?

Back from the dead, but continuing issues with FDR set up is really peeing me off. I'm now back to wanting a 1x.

However, I'm wondering if it may be cheaper to sell or trade the whole bike and put some towards a new (or even lightly used) 1X bike?

Also, I wonder if I do decide to convert the existing bike, would anyone on here would (in principle) be wanting a 105 set up should I sell it to fund/part fund a conversion to 1x CUES or equivalent?

I am advised that the components I’d be taking off the bike (and therefore selling) would be …
105 RD-R7000-GS rear derailleur,
105 FD-R7000 braze-on front derialleur,
CS-HG700 11-34 cassette and
105 FC-R7000 50-34 chainrings.
105 Front & Rear flat bar shifters
I’m not ‘officially’ putting them up yet, as being able to sell them is kind of linked in to my getting the conversion done.
So if anyone would be interested ‘in principle’ then let me know as one thing is dependent on the other.

Question if I may.

If someone wanted to fit my 105 stuff (currently on a flat bar Giant Fastroad Advanced 1) onto a drop bar road bike, could they and what would be involved (other than getting a pair of suitable brifters obviously)?

Maybe it would be better to understand and fix what's going on with the FDR setup?
Is this problem you are experiencing something specific to flat bar shifters and a road front mech, or is there something else going on here?

I kind of think, on road, 1x is a bit of a fad unless you are into marginal gains. I can see it makes a lot of sense with wide narrow chain rings off road.

Thanks, but I just want a 1x for simplicity, nothing to do with gains or performance etc.
Just don't need or want to faff about with changing front chainrings.
