I'm trying to get some logic into the layout of a website... but I know nothing about British army divisions, brigades, regiments, etc.

this is one of the pages in question, http://www.army-clothing.net/categories.php?cat=39

All the insignia seem hap hazard to me (there's 4 pages of British army insignia) and I want to rearrange them into a logical order.

eg. Infantry, Cavalry, Airborne, Armoured & Naval

but looking at all the insignia I've no idea which is which or even if putting them on a page for infantry, cavalry, etc.. is the best idea.

If you were looking for a t-shirt or beanie with your regiment's insignia embroidered on it... how would you expect them to be ordered so you can find what you want easily?

Thanks in advance

Regiment badge m8. just put the regiment badges on the page, the chaps from the regiments will click on that then under there you can list what you have on offer, polo's, caps etc.

i got my old man some KINGS stuff for christmas, he's a Kingo from the 70's, hong kong and NI.

Don't forget the regiments before the merge, a lot of people only stock current stuff but there are tonnes of chaps who served proudly in regiments which have now been absorbed by others (kings being one)
cheers.

There is a pecking order of seniority, which may help, but I also see that you have regiments that have gone, for example, the "East Yorkshire's", and also the "Green Howards listed, which is now become "The Yorkshire Regiment" along with "The Prince of Wales" and "The Duke of Wellingtons" in the merge, which is also listed. As mentioned you have got a minefield there, just have a good search engine.

Heck knows, I have been trying to fathom it out. These are most of the units involved:

1st Army
1st Canadian Army
2nd Army
5th Army (US)
7th (US) Army
8th Army
18th Army Group
2 Canadian
21st Army Group
2nd Army Group R.A
5th Army Group R.A.
185 Brigade, 1st Canadian Division
21 Brigade
51st Brigade
53rd Brigade
74th Brigade
74th Brigade
Commando Brigade
Special Service Brigade
1 Canadian Corps
10 Corps
11 Corps (US)
12 Corps
13 Corps
15 Corps, 14th Army
1st British Corp
2 Canadian Corps
2nd Canadian Corps
30 Corps
33 Corps
4 Corps
4th Corps
5 Corps
5 Corps (US)
6 Corps (US)
7 Corps (US)
9th Corps, 1st Army
101st Airborne (US)
10th SS Panzer Division
11th East African Division
15th Indian Division
17th Division
19th Division
19th Indian Division
1st Airborne Division
1st British Infantry Division
20th Division
25th Indian Division
26th Division
26th Indian Division
2nd Canadian Division
2nd Division
3rd Canadian Division
3rd Division
3rd Division (Canadian)
43rd Division
46th Division
4th Canadian Armoured Division
51st Highland Division
56th Division
5th Division
5th Division (Indian)
6th Airborne Division
6th Armoured Division
6th South African Division
7th Armoured Division
7th Division (Indian)
81st West African Division
81st West African Division
82nd Airborne (US)
82nd West African Division

It seems to me that a lot of it is fairly ad hoc, i.e. they want an invasion force to do such and such so they do a sort of shopping list of airborne, armour, artillery and infantry and bolt them together into armies like 1st army, 2nd army and they are combined as an army group. So it can be a very fluid set up.

thanks for your suggestions.. much appreciated.

I've suggested making the 'search' on the site more prominent as that would make finding a certain badge simple.

Thanks for the link to the army forum... I should be able to register having been in the Sea Scouts

any more suggestions about sorting this minefield out would be greatly appreciated.

Btw the KINGS badge should be backed in RED and the Hanoverian horse should be silver.

can i also suggest doing TRF's? damn things are hard to get hold of for past regiments.
