I have never been abroad and wondered how unusual that is these days.

I've just never really had the inclination or been struck with wanderlust. If you haven't been out of Britain what are your reasons?

Was taken on package holiday to Calella at 9, haven't stopped since, if I know day or so is coming up free I get straight on the low cost flight sites, to anywhere. Wish I'd never had to work and just been able to keep on going................

It's unusual I'd say, I don't know anybody who has not been abroad, and kids? Our local school trips are to the likes of Zambia, Peru or skiing in Seefeld, mine was camping in Buckden.

I used to work for a company in Staffordshire that was out in the countryside and pulled a lot of its workforce in from the local villages.

I needed a QC guy to go with me to check some stuff in China so I requested that the QC Manager accompany me. He was about 50, middle manager. Turned out he didn't have a passport, never been outside UK. He was happy holidaying in the UK and lived in an area that was very rural and quite untouched by modern life.

So his first ever trip outside UK was 2 weeks to China, once we got his passport sorted

I never went abroad until I was 37 - never had the money or the want - and holidayed all over the UK and Scotland - beautiful countryside and some excellent beaches in the UK - Just the weather that's a bit hitty-missy.
In '98 I went on a driving holiday to France and had a great time - been loadsa places abroad now tho but usually flying and away from the over-popular resorts.

Never been either.....and now that I am living on a miniscule pension I won't be going anytime soon. Lol. To be honest, it doesn't bother me as I am a definite home bird anyway plus having pets that I am too soppy to consider putting in kennels/cattery.

Furthest afield I have been is Cornwall and North Wales
T'is nothing. We regularly stay on a farm in Cornwall in the summer. The son of the family (great lad), who must be about 30 now, has never been out of Cornwall.
My Welsh Aunt has only ever been out of Wales twice... on her honeymoon to the Norfolk Broads and to my wedding.

I have met old men in Yorkshire who have barely travelled 10 miles from home - examples!

My ex's mum used to be a social worker in Bradford and she was shocked to find that some of the teenage mums that she was working with had never been out of Bradford, never seen a cow, sheep or horse in real life, despite only living about 5 miles from glorious countryside! She organised a trip to the Yorkshire coast for them to show them what the sea looked like ...
