First pic is me sat on the toilet half an hour after coming home from work, second is a few hours later..

My idea of just "sprucing up" the WC with a few tiles has spiralled out of control, off toilet shopping in the morning.

What's my best option with the waste pipe (first pic) just box it in and tile over?.

If you box it in make sure the lid is quickly removable.

1) Tile the boxed-in section. It's in a " splash zone".
2) Make sure you do up the screws that hold the loo seat onto the lavatory pan tightly. They have a really annoying habit of working loose over time. Some designs of pan are so stupid that you have to remove the entire pan from the soil pipe in order to re-tighten them.
3) Make sure that the seat cover does actually stay upright when lifted.

Edit: One more thing......invest in a small tube of silicone grease. Absolutely slather the nylon screws that fix the seat to the pan with the stuff. Do the same if the screws are metal. The screws have a habit of locking solid over time, and at some stage, you really will have to tighten them again.
