Good God, is that what it's come to? Whatever your political leaning, surely it's befitting to acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices made by our armed forces. This has always been the case. I know it's trite to say, but if everybody shared your opinion 70-odd years ago, you would be speaking (and typing) in German.
Be proud of our servicemen and women.

Macht nichts, ich werde irgendwie auf Deutsch schlecht schreiben! Tschuess! Es wuerde sehr komisch sein, wenn die Dorf mit einen Deutschen Dorf angeschlosst war!

angeschlosst has defeated the Google translator so I guess it's a word that is not used in front of the ladies.

Perhaps it's only one "s". My German spelling is not that great. Nor is my German grammar for that matter!

No it's the double S that I can't remember the name for but looks like a capital B.

My German's very rusty but I assume you're saying something about writing German cos your village is twinned with a German village?

I thought they also fought so that citizens could express their opinions freely?

Respect the dead yes, but I don't like the elevation to hero status. Lots of people go on being quietly heroic day after day in their jobs, or private lives caring for others, or in the community, and get little recognition, alive or dead.
