I enjoy the winter for various reasons.
I like to see the seasonal changes in plant structures, the architecture of them if you like. The birds visit the feeders and start to scout out nesting options. The wood burner gets sparked up and there's nowt finer than settling down with a good book in front of it.
I went for a walk in the Peak District last week on public paths through a couple of farms and the fields, the 6 mile or so route taking me past the Monsal Head pub. For anyone who knows it, this spot is teeming in summer because of having a car park and magnificent views over the Monsal Head viaduct. On my 6 mile walk I saw not a single person. Not one on the whole walk (except in cars when the route went near a road). I felt I had the entire place to myself. Today it is sleeting and snowing - and I'll be back out there later this morning, fully winter kitted, and I'll just enjoy the solitude and sound of the wildlife.
I like winter...
