Anyone else spent ages waiting for "hot weather"to ride in then find it's too hot?

The months i've spent wrapped up in layers, scarves gloves, overshoes etc etc :cold:dreaming of some nice very high temperatures to go out in then when it finally arrives it's too much for me so i'm waiting till it pees down later today so i can get some normality back in to my cycling! I've only been out twice this last week and my times and distances have been affected by the heat. My knees seem to tighten up and is it me or does breathing in warm air make you sluggish?:heat:

yes, today. not helped by it being blustery too. usually i am fine in hot weather, i much prefer riding in it.

oddly, when i looked at the strava data i did some fastest segments today and it felt as if i was riding in treacle.

The cool breeze was nice but I do like riding in hot weather. I lived in Aus for a while and it was hotter to ride there than here. Hubster has been staying indoors as he gets dehydrated outside.

Yes, I had a weekend last Summer where it reached about 47°C outside, and (thanks to no insulation), about 46 inside. I just sat indoors with fans blowing on me, and tried not to melt.

The Audax Alpine Classic, which runs in late January every year in the Victorian Alps, is typically a hot event. Imagine doing a roughly 1100m mountain climb (and then another later in the day) when the temperature at the bottom is about 40 and low 30s at the top!

I cannot handle the heat. I will get heat rash and suffer heat exhaustion. I rode one afternoon around 10 days ago, temperature in the late 20s, and I had to call my wife to come and get me. I was done. Red blotchy rash on my left calf and, as I put the bike in the car, I damn near puked. I was that crook.

These last few days, it's been 30+ and I've hardly been outside. Just too much for me.

My ideal temp is around 17 or 18c and I start getting uncomfortable around 24/25.

I like cycling in the sun but anything over 30° is an absolute no-no.

Here it's been showers / rain for ages, then the sun comes out and the temperature skyrockets - 45° in the sun on Thursday.

Cloudy today with storms forecast - great!

I'm just about to head out (on the bike) because the cloud cover is hiding the sun and even if it rains, it's warm enough for me to dry out and not get cold!

I reckon I'm around 100km north-east of you BTW.

I've just slowed down a little, then if you are moving and not pushing it, you are hopefully generating more of a cooling breeze than you are working. However when you stop you suddenly realise it is warm! Just had our first rain for ages but then I'm not on the bike. If I'm going to have a preferred weather then lots of sunshine, fairly warm but not as humid as it has been - that for me has been the hard bit!

It wasn't so much the heat yesterday as the bloody wind! I was blown to a halt at times it was so gusty.

I like warm, but this week has been too hot. Makes me lethargic and I invariably do less miles. Currently waiting for the rain to stop so I can get out this morning before it warms up.

I've been awake most of the night listening to thunder and my dog whimpering. The alarm was set for 4.00am so I could get out before it gets stinking hot and the Saturday looneys get out.

The alarm was switched off, I looked at the clock at 3-4-5-6-7.00am. No sleep because of the heat and noise, glad it's raining, I'm too tired to sit on the bike. I'll see what it's like after sunset tonight. I've just packed my gear away until tonight.
