Of course its worth mentioning the financial gain - I work four days a week, cycling saves me £20 in bus fare.

Don't know what the saving in car usage would equate to (forty miles), never been very good at working that sort of thing out.

With my cancelled gym membership and fuel, I hope to save £110 per month.

12.5 miles

bike 50 minutes give or take and I fit the wash/change clothes into work time (takes about the same time as going to the loo)
car 50 minutes (no parking at work so a 10 minute walk to the office)
train 50 minutes (20 minutes train journey but a walk either end and allow time so that I do not miss the train)

Even if I could get to work in 5 minutes by car I would still ride. I think Anything upto about 90 minutes each way would be acceptable.

Many seem to have a similar story. I travel about 10 miles, it's under 15 minutes on the motorbike, 15-20 in the car or 35-40 on the bike, plus 5 minutes to get ready plus 10 minutes to change at work... I cycle when I have the time but I need to leave over an hour to do so. That's valuable sleeping time on a Monday morning.

My commute is 6-7 miles.

Driving it would be 25 mins on very quiet roads (never, unless leaving very early). Normal time is 35 mins.

When I started it would take me 40 mins.
Now I hardly ever take more than 30.

So virtually the same time, taking changing into account (although it's so hot in the office I've decided to stay in my cycling gear today!)

My commute by car or bike is exactly the same distance, 18 miles straight along the A40 between Ross on Wye and Gloucester. It takes me around 35 minutes in the car, or (including changing time) and hour and a half on the bike. I enjoy the bike ride, but I can't deny that sometimes if I'm busy at home it's a lot easier to think "sod it, I'll drive to work today". It's much easier to cycle if it's quicker on a bike, as it was when I commuted 8 urban miles to work a few years ago.

The direct route (walk/bike/car) to work is just over a mile, but if I take the bike it usually ends up between 10 and 15 miles, tho when suitably inspired I have been known to take a 27 mile route if the weather is good and I'm up in time.

My bike saved me £250 in fuel last month, and I did a lot of distance driving I wouldn't normally do.

My journey time to work on average has been reduced from anything between 20 - 30 minutes by car to 6-8 minutes by bike in the same traffic depending upon traffic lights.

The bike has a slightly shorter route that misses out 3 killer sets of traffic lights. They are the same route on the way home takes a little longer as it's up hill but again it's worth it if there is traffic.

Barely 1.5m each way, three out of five days - taken to doing a 15m circuit after work (about an hour) to make up for it - and 6m each way to college on the other two days (about 25 minutes each).
