I've just recently won a Royal Shopper http://www.andersen-shopper.de/en/products/shopper-collection/royal-shopper-plus-aluminium I haven't used it enough to get a really good idea as to how well it works yet but it is basically a shopping trolley (a good one at that- which can double up as a barrow for moving stuff around) which can also be attached to a bike (either by a rather cumbersome bracket or a better fitting which attaches to a bike rack). It can be easily detached for wheeling around the shops. It is a bit tricky to tow when empty- quite easy to set if off skipping from wheel to wheel if you take it a bit too fast over uneven roads, I take speed bumps very slowly. It handles better with some shopping in it. The wheels are larger and better quality than you get on most shopping trolleys. It also folds up quite small.

For shortish trips I think it is pretty useful but in general I prefer a trailer that attaches close to the rear axle of the bike.
