A once in a lifetime event doesn't sound very attractive to me.
If you don't like it you will wish you hadn't done it, and if you do like it you will be disappointed because you cannot do it again.

My pal who did an Ironman said that he'd never do another one - but he was mightily proud of having completed it. So "once in a lifetime" sounds appropriate.
