That confirms my earlier suspicion about less power being available from the light than the E-Werk.
Hi again Trilkeman,
Now leaning towards a cheaper dyno lamp plus E WERK. I believe you have to adjust output according to your device. Is that straightforward? I'm no technical wizard. How would I know what my Nokia and/or my Edge Touring needs?
Grateful for all your considered input.

Yes, selecting the voltage and amperage is just a question of twiddling two dials with a 5p coin or screwdriver. For voltage, anything chargeable by USB will be happy with 5v (the setting between 4.2v and 5.6v is 4.9v so this would be 100% safe). USB2 is 0.5A, so this would be the safe setting. USB3 is 2A, but that's generally only needed for larger devices like iPads.

Great. I feel like I'm getting there now. I can buy the fancy B&M light without USB charging and the e werk from Rose Bikes in Germany for around £148; less than the cost of the USB charging lamp here in the UK.
Close to making the final decision.
Many thanks to you and all other contributors.

Thanks so much for all your replies here. Very, very informative and helpful. Where would I be without CycleChat?
Just ordered the B&M lamp (non usb version) and a B&M e werk from Rose bikes for £141.53.
Once I have my new bike I'll post on here to let folks know how I get on with these.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Geoff

There is an alternative that may work for some. I normally switch off my phone, and only turn it on to send the occasional text message. That way, the battery lasts for ages. With an external batery pack this can, of course, be extended significantly. For a gps I have a Garmin Etrex 30. This is not only one of the cheaper models (and the lightest), but it also has the lowest electricity consumption. The touch screen models do not last nearly as long. The other part of the story is top quality batteries. I use Ansmann 2500 batteries (Eneloop type) and with these I can ride for five days of about seven hours each. Admittedly, this is following downloaded tracks rather than making the gps do all the thinking. So with a couple of spare batteries I can ride an entire holiday without ever recharging,
