We have had Angharad (goldfish) for nearly 6 years. She lives in a fairly large glass tank, with loads of camp coloured gravel and a little castle. She has an oxygen supply attached to the castle which is on around 4 hours a day.

She's pretty healthy ... considering she was once dropped when someone was cleaning the tank.

Previous to this we have had 2 Black Moors who both lived to around 4 years.

We've had a couple of fairground goldfish for about 4yrs now... fairly big tank, water changed every so often, pebbles, a tunnel and some weed (not that sort) and they're doing just fine

Is that not the case with all pets?

Judging by mine as a kid. Me and my four sisters had dogs, fish, hamsters etc... and all fell to my Dads responsibility

Flat we stayed in last year for hols had a large aquarium with loads of tropical fish.

My kids fought each other for the first two days to feed them. They loved them.

Then they got bored leaving me to do the biz.

So bear in mind the fish will become your responsibility.

I forgot. Maisie got a fungus thing on her tail, so we dosed the water with a treatment from the pet shop. It dissolved the fungus... and her tail! For a while she swam nose down a bit, and then gradually adapted. She was a fighter. Probably saw off both the Freds.

Mr Plax got Goldfish. If you don't have a filter then you need to put something like oxygenating tablets in. The tank will also get dirtier and the water needs to be changed more often when there is no filter.
Mr Plax however has the attention span of a small child and soon got bored of looking after them. They have been re-homed in my mums pond. Mr Plax has been banned from having any more animals. He does ask if he can get a Degu every now and then but if he can't even look after a goldfish there is no way I'm going to let him get a Degu!

I once moved into a flat where there was a fairly large fish tank and six goldfish. I agreed to look after them and did for about a year until the last one died. I stayed in the flat for a further two years after that but never replaced the goldifsh as I found it was an almost daily chore looking after them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
