Does anyone know how to disconnect big (6kg) Calor gas containers? Won't bore you with the backstory (sister in law, say no more) but we've been left holding the baby, and no idea where to start.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Fully close the valve with your hand then use a spanner to undo the brass nut to remove the hose

Edit: make sure there are no ignition sources nearby

Turn the valve off, unscrew the left hand thread connector with, iirc 27mm spanner, usual rule of righty tighty, lefty loosey is reversed in this case, no naked flames or sparks whilst doing it.

Down here theres a rather better arrangement requiring no tools. You just flip the red lever to green and lift it pushing in the end. IMG_20190824_195719.jpg

Same as a Butane bottle here, it looks like the one swee’pea99 had to sort was in a caravan as they have a hose attached which goes to a fixed pressure regulator on the bulkhead in the gas locker

Orange cylinders are propane and blue ones are butane.

The blue ones have a traditional right hand thread which prevents the wrong gas being connected to the appliance.

I'm not sure of the difference, but one burns hotter than the other.

Orange cylinders at my static caravan.

The gas in them is also prone to freeze, irritating when you wake up on a frosty morning and can't get any hot water to have a wash.
