Anyone know of any good Photography forums ?

I have a couple of Nikon's and a couple of Leica's and I use their respective forums. If you want a generic one for the basics, have a look on Google. If you want to know how to use all the features on your camera, then YouTube is a good start. Or failing that, the Magic Lantern do a good series of easy to read and understand books on specific models.

Not that I am into phography these days, but check out Flickr discussion boards in the groups. They may still be active.

Talkphotography is very good.

There's a Talk Beginners section. Alternatively you can just post a photo in one of the specialist areas explaining that you are just starting out and ask for comments. The uploading process is a bit odd - you need something like a Flickr account - there is a sticky somewhere.

Having just spent a few days with someone who is very serious about her photography, she suggested to me that finding and joining your local photography group on Instagram is a good idea. You don't get the clueless know alls that forums attract, but you do get people who meet up and help each other, or you get local landmarks/settings photographed in various ways by people happy to talk about the processing they used and share ideas.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I inherited a number of 35mm film cameras and lots of lenses/flash units + bits and bobs a few years back and they have been sat in the cupboard, I went the to Whitby Goth festival this weekend and was photgraphed by many people most of the photographs taken were of excellent quality (very good cameras and proffesionals or keen amateurs) this has sparked my interest but need a little more info on the cameras and lenses.

Cheers all

If it's film cameras you are interested in try www.apug.org a very good forum.

I sold all my film cameras recently and went digital, still not sure if it was the right move though as I liked using film.

What cameras do you have?

I was going to sell the cameras and then try to get a reasonable Dslr second hand but then thought why not have a go with film first then If I don't take to it there is no real loss. The cameras I have are Jenaflex AMI electronic , Practica b100 and a zenith TTL then a number of 35mm point and press (a bit of a waste of time as I also have a number of point and press digital Cameras) then I have 3 flash units a sunpak auto 140/Starblitz 200a quick and a Jenazoom auto 3600, two light meters ,then a number of lenses a Prakticar 28/135mc a Prakticar 2.8/28 and a sirius zoom lense Plus other filters and X2 macro lenses and original camera lenses in boxes.

A Praktica collecter !

I had quite a few and sold them recently, there's a dedicated thread to Prakticas on the forum I mentioned (I started it )

The Jenaflex is very similar to the Praktica BC1.

The B100 is a very good compact camera with a solid feel and very underated, complete with the hand grenade style of body covering.

The Zenit TTL, I'd say one of the better Zenits if in full working order, nice and simple clear viewfinder and it should have the nice Helios lens on it.
