Anyone know what's happening in New cross this morning?

A202 completely closed at junction with A2, even to pedestrians. Causing absolute carnage all the way back up the A20 to Eltham, 5 miles away.

BBC website says "due to a police incident". That sounds like bomb scare to me.

Anyone know what's happening down there, because it's too far out to be anything to do with road closures for Maggie's funeral I would have thought.

I don't know but the New Cross Gate station would be at the centre of the road closures. A one mile exclusion zone makes me think of a bomb scare. I'd go along to find out but TfL are showing that the road's been reopened:

2013-04-17 (09:48) : The A2 New Cross Road has reopened in both directions but Queens Road remains closed following an earlier police incident. Residual traffic on the A2 Westbound is heavy and slow moving with tailbacks to the Sun in the Sands Roundabout. The westbound traffic on the A20 Lewisham Way is also heavy and slow moving with tailbacks to Loampit Vale. The diversion route on the eastbound A2 remains in place at Lausanne Road. Expect delays on approach.

Police incident seems to cover almost any closure by police.

Last one near here that affected me (OK different force) was for a stabbing.

The plot thickens... No gun, no knife, yet all the surrounding roads were closed to vehicles and pedestrians for at least 4 hours... weird!

Odd isn't it? The first news about the road closures was for the A2 between Pepys Road and Clifton Rise - Pomeroy Street is another half a mile to the west.

I still think bomb or drugs bust. I expect it will all come out soon enough...
