Apologies for being such a ped this morning

This morning I was unable to cycle in due to going out this evening and not wanting to leave my bike out in the cold all night! However, I'm not sure what happened to me but I was a complete ar$e of a ped! I had started to cross a very small side road when I saw an approaching cyclist indicate that he wanted to turn into that road (it's also one way into that side street). Just (stupidly) assuming that on a tiny little road (with people still crossing) he'd remain close to the left I just stood waiting in the middle of that road for him to pass. He obviously cycled right at me (expecting me to have carried along like everyone else was doing) and luckily had needed to slow down for the turning otherwise my gormlessness could have done us both some damage! :birthday:

THEN - a little way down, right by Bank station, I rushed across the road as I knew the lights for the traffic were about to turn green, but stopped short of getting on the pavement about a foot away, obviously completely in the way of another cyclist!! :birthday: :birthday: I hadn't seen the cyclist there, but every day I cycle in so that's not an excuse as I know cyclists are often at that set of lights.

So, if either of you cyclists are reading this (first one with a filter face mask along Fenchurch Street cycling towards the station- second one in full road gear by Bank station heading towards Liverpool Street) - then my sincere apologies!

Am obviously having a bad concentration day. On the bright side though that while I've been an inconvenience for cyclists so far today, it does actually help my commute in remembering what an ar$e I can accidentally be at times when I'm inconvenienced on my journey. Makes me a lot more tolerant of silly moves. Well, it would be rude not to be really, wouldn't it?

The cyclist was turning from the major road into the minor road and you were already crossing? It's his duty to wait for you to finish crossing.

I appreciate that, but to be fair no pedestrian would give him right of way when he had it as they (we) are all a bit sheep like down that road. I understand the rules of the road say that he should have stopped and you're obviously right, but I still feel that just standing in the middle of the road was the more stupid thing to do!

We're all human, we're allowed to have FAIL of brain. At least in this instance you weren't the problem, even if you might have felt like it at the time.

HC, it's a helpful reminder that folk don't do things purposefully to get in the way... helping people realise they need to be more tolerant.

+1.

I really think a lot of issues on the road (and possibly in the world) are down to people reading "intent" into everyday errors.

As soon as you start thinking that people do stuff deliberately it all takes on a totally different light.

HC...Next time I am infuriated by a mindless ped, I'll just imagine they are you and keep thinking happy thoughts!...well done for reminding us that we are all capable of everyday human error.

Never thought peds did it deliberately by I do find them very frustrating at times and the do put themselves in danger a lot.IMHO.
