Next they'll be telling shops they can't use cameras because it's unfair on hard done by shoplifters.

Since the paper tax disc is disappearing from windscreens you would have thought the camera's could also be used to check for non-car tax motorists as well.

We have to think of the children poor innocent victims of this vicious and unfounded campaign against innocent motorists

Persecuted victim

I loved this:

Mr Lee's vehicle, a Ford Mondeo, was often ticketed for being parked across disabled bays.

Unpaid and damaged parking tickets were also left on the car's dashboard, with a notice labelling the Leeds firm as "UK Car Park Scammers" and another claiming that the charges were unenforceable.

Well it appears that the courts disagree!

WIthdrawing labour in an industrial dispute is a perfectly valid protest (if done correctly)

I have had this wonderful idea (dare I say a true stroke of absolute Genius)

If all motorists parked sensibly and legally then we could remove the "cash incentive" for the Council

Yep it is that simple.....Don't commit the offence and you cannot be fined!

If that concept catches on, countries of the world could avoid the need for their Police, the Army, RAF and Navy [though I accept some countries don't need a Nvat already]... though France will always need grumpy Border Controllers at Calais.

Wise words. When speed cameras came about 20 odd years ago I made the suggestion that if people didn't like them they could simply not speed for a week or two and the self funding system would disappear into its own overdraught. Alas, for all the moaning there were plenty of people willing to keep giving money to the government, and they alone perpetuated the scheme.

I'm glad I read all the way down before posting, I was about to reply to Cunobelin saying something similar.

That's a TMN avoided then.

An alternative view...
Motorists make up a very large part of society. Society as a whole needs to believe that the rules and regulations it sets itself to live by are reasonable and fair. Whilst other members of society may take a differing view, motorists believe that using mobile parking enforcement vehicles are not reasonable and fair. As such, the government (ie our representatives) has decided to water down parking enforcement in a attempt to ensure that society continues to regard the rules and regulations as reasonable and fair.

It is the same reason speed cameras are painted yellow. Camouflage them or stick them behind a bush and the majority feels that is not a reasonable approach to enforcement.

I would suspect that only the small minority of law breaking drivers feel cameras are unfair.

After all, why should someone who doesn't park stupidly think enforcement efforts are unfair when it's not they who are subjected to them?

Unfortunately what people should think and what they do think are rarely the same. Part of the job of government is to ensure that the laws and systems of enforcement are not perceived as being so draconian as to bring about a revolt against them. That is what's going on here
