Keen on ordering an Apple Watch 3 with Cellular, when pre-order opens tomorrow.

Just wondering if anyone on here has one of the earlier versions and what they think of it for cycling?

(No need to post saying how rubbish Apple and their products rcs are btw. Heard it all before.)

I may regret asking, but what is that?

Edit - just Googled it. A mobile phone that attached to your wrist. Carry on ;)

Rides under 5 hours only with the Apple Watch.
Theres one called the Amazfit that does 35 hours with the GPS and HRM running.

The Apple watch is a fashion item, finding it really hard to believe that the 16 hour battery life does not lead to premature battery failure. Crazy crazy item.

I have a 2, not really interested in upgrading, I loved Knight Rider but, I don't think I would use it much for calls.

Battery Life is much better than my old Android watch but not amazing. I leave it on the charger it every night and Its never run out of power in the day.

I've used it to track cycling and its not bad but nowhere near as good as a Garmin if you want lots of detail.

Its a decent all round tracker though and it looks like the fitness angle is one they are going to push so it should improve.

I have a series 1 (I think), and have never had an issue with battery life. I've had mine on for over 12 hours today and still have 53% battery. Mind you, I use it for messaging, calls, paying for stuff, general alerts and the like, not for GPS related things, other than the occasional Glympse message to Mrs rb58. It's surprisingly good as a phone (unlike the new one, you need your actual phone in your pocket for it to work), but it does make you look like a nobber. (I realise I'm leading with my chin here).

Is that true? Dont think I could live with a watch (or phone) that needed daily charging. What a faff.

I was a huge smartwatch skeptic (https://9to5mac.com/2015/04/24/apple-watch-diary-first-impressions/) but ended up a convert (https://9to5mac.com/guides/apple-watch-diary/).

Battery-life depends on how you use it. With active fitness tracking (GPS and heart-rate monitor in constant use), it's just a few hours; without that, it's all-day.

I remember when the data bank/calculator watch was cool.

Amazingly you can still buy them. What does the Apple Watch do for you? As far as I can make out it's a phone on your wrist.
BTW I'm a big Apple fan.

My daughter in law just bought one for £349 I think and Mickey Mouse tells her what the time is. I believe it can be used for cycling with heart monitor included and other things I don't know about yet. Wouldn't buy one myself, far too expensive for a pensioner.

Cheers for all the responses. A good solid mix of opinions. I do like to hear negatives, when backed up with answers like the above.

Big Apple fan here too, everything from Mac's to iPhones and iPads to AppleTV's. They all work superb together. Also use their Airport kit for WiFi.

Until now, the Watch has been the only item that I have struggled to find a use for. Love the design and idea, but still unsure whether to take the plunge.

It's either a Watch or a Powermeter for upcoming 40th from family, with me adding cash to mind you. I am being pushed for a solid answer, but I really don't need anything, if I honestly ask myself.

Less than 2 hours before ordering opens. EE still haven't decided on the pricing structure.

Or is it more likely that they want people to have already decided that they are getting one, so that the monthly cost doesn't diminish sales when we find out it's prohibitive.
