Are 26 inch wheel bikes still a thing?

I have a GT Avalanche Pro from the naughties, 26” wheels, lovely Deore XT kit. The Rockshox forks are getting a bit noisy and I was thinking of a rigid carbon replacement but wondering if a wide “29er” front wheel might make up for the lack of suspension.

I have a Thorn XTC with 26” wheels and feel no need to “upgrade” there either.
