Are we being forced to go electric?

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Ford, GM and Chrysler combined together delivered 70,000 BEVs to dealers this half year in USA,

Tesla sold 900,000 in the same period.

They are combined already selling 13 times less then Tesla. Saddled with $250bn debt and hundreds of billions in defunct ICE technology. The workers union are demanding a 35hr working week, instead of 80-90hr week. How the hell are they going to earn their way out of all this debt to EV revolution

Tesla predict they will make 20 million cars sales per year by 2030

- and I, and I suspect many others, might think of buying one if they produced a proper estate car or MPV - same goes for other EV manufacturers of course.

What do you mean proper MPV?

Peugeot 5008, Dacia Jogger, VW Touran would be typical examples of usefully shaped vehicles - with height at the rear, low boot sill. No sloping back. Vehicles that can accommodate two or three bikes vertical, with front wheel detached, or a small chest of drawers. I know about eBerlingos etc, with their abysmal range. Affordable would be an advantage too.

A quick search found this

https://ev-database.org/car/1343/Citroen-e-SpaceTourer-M-75-kWh

There are other van/combo BEV. They're not as common but are appearing.

Looks useful apart from the lousy range. It says

An interior designed for long journeys

But it then has a range of only 136 miles.

I can't understand why they don't make it capable of 200 miles winter range

Just re reading it from £37 grand gives you just 136 miles.

Presumably the one previously referenced in Europe has a better capacity.

Whilst I know there are people on here who will extol the EV virtues come what may but from £37 grand for 136 miles does seem a bit of a stretch.

In the real world, 136 miles won't actually be 136 miles so imagine going from say Newcastle to Torquay for your holiday, the journey to and from would be longer than the holiday!!

Could be worse. They could be going to Paignton.

I'm cautious about Tesla's 'Predictions'; let us not forget Musk was claiming Tesla would have full self-driving on Tesla "next year" in 2019, and that Tesla's autonomous Robo Taxis would cost 25,000 USD with an "Expected" profit of 30,000 USD a year for the user.

The other thing that I think Tesla can’t make a prediction on is when several of the large manufacturers all get together and design a common platform, with the relevant cost savings, designed from the floor up as an EV , and not a modified i.c.e car, which I strongly suspect they are doing right now.
